A Story, a Model, and the Why Behind It
The Story
Five years of experience with a Storehouse Fund in a local church.
The Model
A proposed model for other churches to adopt in their own communities.
The Impact
How organizations and individuals were impacted, including those in the church.
The Theology
An appendix giving the deeper theological basis for the idea and history of this tithe.
Tithing That Remembers the Least
Scripture shows a pattern of care and covenant for the least (the poor, orphan, refugee, and Levite) that formally begins in the Mosaic Covenant. Our understanding of the tithes and offerings of the Old and New Testament almost always takes the ‘least of these’ into consideration.
The book walks through the third-year tithe of Deuteronomy 14 and 26, a tithe stored within the city gates for the Levite, the resident alien, the fatherless, and the widow, and shows how a local church can practice it today.
In five years, with very little effort in a small church, the fund it describes distributed over $160,000 of donations to 90 different opportunities.
